Adult Day Care for Allen, TX Families Caring for Someone at Home

“Can we keep Dad at home?” is the question most Allen families bring to their first tour. For many, the answer is yes, with help during the day. Our Richardson center is a licensed adult day program built for Alzheimer’s and other dementias, 11.2 miles from Allen City Hall, about 17 minutes straight down US-75 with no toll roads. Your parent spends the day with us and sleeps in their own bed.

  • Licensed nurse on duty every day
  • 1:5 staff-to-member ratio
  • Meals cooked in our kitchen
  • VA North Texas contracted
  • Open 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM weekdays

Home Care Works Better With Daytime Help

Caring for someone with dementia at home is possible for a long time, but rarely alone. The strain usually builds in the same places: the parent who cannot be left by themselves for a workday, the medication schedule nobody can keep straight, the afternoon restlessness that makes every errand a gamble, and a caregiver who has not had a free hour in weeks.

A day program takes pressure off every one of those points at once. On the days your parent is with us, a nurse handles medications, staff keep them busy and supervised, and they eat a real lunch. You get your job, your appointments and your evenings back.

We suggest starting at two or three days a week. Members who come regularly in the first few weeks adjust faster, and the routine becomes something they expect rather than something they resist.

What Allen Has for Seniors, and Where the Gap Is

Allen takes good care of its active older adults. The Allen Senior Recreation Center on St. Mary Drive offers fitness, classes, trips and a daily lunch to residents 60 and older, with memberships at $5 a year for Allen residents. It even runs a van to the center three days a week for members with no other way there.

A recreation center is built for people who can come and go on their own. When a parent with dementia can no longer be left unsupervised, forgets to eat, or needs help in the restroom, they need a program with trained staff and a nurse. When we looked in September 2026, we did not find an adult day program for dementia inside Allen city limits, and none of the major directories listed one. That is why Allen families drive south to us.

A Day of Activity, Planned Around Memory Loss

Our activity calendar exists to keep minds and bodies working at a level that fits each member. Exercise happens twice a day. There is a daily sing-along, music programs, dancing with live entertainment, word and trivia games, mind fitness activities, arts and crafts, therapy dog visits and intergenerational programs. Members who would rather help than join in are given jobs, because feeling useful matters as much as being entertained. The full range is on our recreational and therapeutic activities page.

On days at home, the same idea carries over. Our article on meaningful activities in the home  has ideas families in Allen can use on weekends.

Getting From Allen to Richardson

The route could hardly be simpler. From central Allen, take US-75 (Central Expressway) south about seven miles, stay on the frontage road, and exit at Campbell Road. Our center sits on Nantucket Drive near Custer and Campbell. OpenStreetMap routing puts it at 11.2 miles and about 17 minutes in light traffic, with no tolls.

Transportation is where Allen families need to plan ahead. We do not provide rides. Allen is not a DART member city, so DART Paratransit is not available. The city’s senior ride service, Collin County Rides, run by DCTA for Allen and Fairview residents who are 65 or older or have a qualifying disability, only goes to places within Collin County. Our center is in Dallas County, so it falls outside that rule. Most Allen families drive, and many build drop-off into a southbound commute.

Schedule a Tour during the hours you would actually drop off, so you can see the drive at its real length.

Nurse Care, Meals and Personal Care

  • Nursing. A licensed nurse is on duty each day we are open, to give or remind about medications, check blood pressure and glucose, assist with oxygen and track weight.
  • Meals. Continental breakfast, a morning snack, and a hot lunch served restaurant style from 12:30 to 1:30, all cooked on site from menus a licensed dietitian reviews. Special diets are handled in our kitchen. Water and juice go around at least three times a day.
  • Personal care. Showers, shaves, shampoo and blow dry, and nail and foot care are available, which spares many families the hardest part of the morning routine.
  • Safety. Staff are background checked, certified in CPR and first aid, and trained in dementia care for at least 12 hours a year. We run fire and disaster drills every month.

Cost and Payment for Allen Families

A half day of five hours or less is $80. A full day of more than five hours is $100. Enrollment is a one-time $65, which covers screening and a needs assessment. Meals are included.

Allen families pay in a few ways. Almost all long-term care insurance policies cover adult day care, and we will help you verify benefits. Eligible veterans referred by a VA physician can attend at no cost in most cases, because we are contracted with the VA North Texas Health Care System; see our veterans page. Caregivers in Collin County can also contact the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging at 800-272-3921, which prioritizes dementia caregivers for its support program and offers a one-time respite voucher.

Who We Serve

Members are 50 or older and have memory loss, or fit comfortably with a group that does. A formal diagnosis is not required. Members need to walk independently or with a walker, cane or staff help, since we cannot accommodate wheelchairs. We ask everyone to reserve days in advance so we can keep our 1:5 ratio, and staff can usually fit in a same-day reservation.

Other Nearby Areas We Serve

Under its published rules, Collin County Rides trips stay within Collin County, and our Richardson center is in Dallas County. Most Allen families drive or arrange private transport.

Any five-hour window counts as a half day. A full day can run up to ten and a half hours, from our 7:30 AM opening to 5:30 PM close.

Yes. Almost all long-term care policies cover adult day services, and our staff will help you confirm your benefits.

They rest in the nurse’s office or the center’s bedroom, with a staff member beside them, until you or paramedics arrive.
