Adult Day Care in Cedar Hill Starts With a Short Drive East

If you live in Cedar Hill, getting to our DeSoto center takes one road. Head east on Belt Line Road for about four miles, and you are at our door. OpenStreetMap routing puts it at 3.9 miles from the Cedar Hill Government Center and about 8 minutes, with no highway. For a parent with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, that short, familiar drive can make the first weeks of adult day care much easier. Friends Place DeSoto is a licensed adult day program built entirely around memory loss, with a nurse on duty every day.

  • Dementia day program in DeSoto since 2012
  • Licensed nurse on duty daily
  • 1:5 staff-to-member ratio

Cedar Hill Families Are Already Searching

Cedar Hill stands out among the small cities around DeSoto: when we checked in September 2026, it was the only one where Google’s search suggestions completed “adult day care cedar hill.” People here are looking. What they find is a mix of residential memory care communities, some many miles away, and a small number of local adult day providers with little or no information online.

We think a Cedar Hill family deserves a clearer answer. Here it is: our program is for adults in the early and middle stages of memory loss who still live at home. Your parent spends the weekday with us, supervised by staff trained in dementia care, and comes home to Cedar Hill for dinner.

A Day That Moves at Your Parent's Pace

People living with dementia do best with a steady rhythm. Ours looks like this:

  1. Arrival and breakfast. A continental breakfast and a morning snack, with staff greeting each member by name.
  2. Morning movement. The first of two daily exercise sessions, sometimes chair exercise, sometimes yoga.
  3. Mind and music. Trivia, word games, mind fitness activities and a daily sing-along.
  4. Lunch. A hot meal cooked in our kitchen from menus a licensed dietitian reviews.
  5. Afternoon. Crafts, a book club, therapy dog visits, visiting performers and a second round of exercise.
  6. Rest when needed. Recliners and a quiet bedroom for anyone who tires.

Music runs through the whole day. Our article on music therapy as a treatment for Alzheimer’s explains why we put so much weight on it.

Personal Care, Done With Respect

The morning routine is where many Cedar Hill caregivers hit a wall: the shower that turns into an argument, the shave that has not happened in a week. At our center, members can have showers, men’s shaves, a shampoo and blow dry, nail care with a hand and arm massage, and foot care with a foot and leg massage, plus licensed salon services for men and women. Staff also help discreetly with toileting reminders and incontinence care. Details are on our personal care services page.

Nurse Care and Safety

A licensed nurse is on duty at our DeSoto center every day we are open. The nurse gives medications or reminders, checks blood pressure, tests glucose, assists with oxygen, carries out treatments and tracks weight. Staff help with walking and transfers. Everyone is background checked, certified in CPR and first aid, and trained in dementia care for at least 12 hours a year. We run fire and disaster drills monthly.

Cedar Hill families have a convenient medical neighbor on the same road: the Methodist Family Health Center on Belt Line Road in Cedar Hill offers primary care, including care for older adults.

Two Counties, Two Agencies

Cedar Hill lies in both Dallas County and Ellis County, and the help available to a caregiver depends on which side of the line you live on.

  • Dallas County side: the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (214-871-5065) offers caregiver support including respite for unpaid caregivers of someone of any age with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.
  • Ellis County side: the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging (800-272-3921) covers Ellis County, gives priority to dementia caregivers, and offers a one-time respite voucher.

Transportation From Cedar Hill

We do not provide transportation. Cedar Hill is not a DART member city. STAR Transit serves Cedar Hill and runs a bus to the Cedar Hill Senior Activity Center for residents, and the Duncanville STAR page lists Cedar Hill and DeSoto among the neighboring cities its riders can reach. Whether STAR will carry your parent from Cedar Hill to our center on a regular schedule is something to confirm by calling STAR at 877-631-5278. At four miles, most families simply drive.

Cost at Our DeSoto Center

Our DeSoto rate sheet starts at $75 for a reserved half day of five hours or less and $95 for a reserved full day. Members who need more hands-on help with walking, toileting or disease-related behaviors pay a higher daily rate after an assessment. Enrollment is a one-time $65. Current rates are on the DeSoto days, hours and costs page.

Almost all long-term care insurance policies cover adult day services. Eligible veterans referred by a VA physician usually attend at no cost under our VA North Texas contract, with a small copay in some cases; see our veterans page.

Cedar Hill Programs That Pair Well With Ours

Cedar Hill Senior Activity Center, 1740 Mansfield Road, open weekdays 8 AM to 4 PM for adults 55 and older, with bingo, social bridge, quilting, line dancing and chair volleyball. It suits a caregiver spouse or a parent in the very earliest stage.

Check on a Senior Citizen, a free Cedar Hill Police program, makes well-being checks on seniors who live alone, by visit, phone, email or text, and calls emergency contacts if there is no answer. See the city's Check on a Senior Citizen page.

Cedar Hill State Park on Joe Pool Lake includes Penn Farm, a working farm from the mid-1800s to mid-1900s with a self-guided tour. For a parent who grew up in the country, it can make a good weekend outing with family. Details are on the state park page.

Our caregiver support group meets at the DeSoto center on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association and open to all.
